New York City apartment tour

My friend Yen, an architect, lives with her husband and two kids in a gorgeous apartment in downtown Manhattan. We went to their place for brunch last fall, and our eyes popped when we walked in. (How great is that rainbow bookcase?!) Here's a peek inside...

How to cut a child's hair

For the past three years, I cut Toby's hair myself. But I had no clue what I was doing! He would end up with shaggy hair and Dumb-and-Dumber bangs. Thankfully, this weekend, my friend Reagan, a hair stylist, agreed to teach me...Read More >

Three ways to tie a scarf

This snowy winter is never ending! The bright side, though, is that you get naturally rosy cheeks and get to wear scarves. So, for these blustery days, my friend Kendra agreed to show us three ways to tie a scarf...
A French twist, above (just use the photos as instructions)...
Make your own snood, above...
And a cozy shoulder wrap...
Which do you like best? How do you usually tie your scarf? Hang in there this winter!!!

P.S. My favorite winter boots.

Her sexy ripped jeans are by Rag & Bone (similar and cheaper here). Coat by Emerson Fry (similar here). Plaid scarf from Madewell (similar here and here). Textured sweater from Topshop. Green nail polish is Don't Tell Mama. Sunglasses from Zara, similar here and here.

Freezing toys for the bath

When your kiddos are going stir-crazy this winter, here's a tip for entertaining them: Freeze toys for the bath! It's ridiculously easy, and they LOVE it.

1. One evening, freeze an inch of water in a bowl/cup/take-out container in the freezer.
2. The next morning, add a few toys, plus another inch or two of water over them, and let that freeze.
3. That evening, just melt the edges a bit (run under warm water from the sink) and they will slide right out of the bowl. Give them to your child in the bath one at a time (draawwwiiiinnnnggg it out!).

What are your go-to indoor activities for kids? I'd love to hear!

P.S. Why Danish babies sleep outdoors.

Sexy flats

The other day, my friend was wearing these beautiful black flats. They looked cool with jeans, a sweater and a top knot, and made her whole outfit come together. Effortless with a bit of edge. (I also like the similar shoes here and here.) I'd love to wear these everyday once the weather warms up.

P.S. My other favorite shoes.

Holiday idea: Making a family album

My friend Kendra's parents have a huge family album that they display on the coffeetable from Thanksgiving to New Year. "We all flip through it every day," she says, "Our childhood photos inspire conversation and great memories." So sweet, right? As part of a three-part series sponsored by Canon, we wanted to share some tips if you'd like to make one for your own family...Read More >

Great idea for holiday cards

My friend Kendra, who is a prop stylist, had a fantastic idea for her family's holiday cards: They choose a holiday song lyric and take a photo inspired by it.
As part of a three-part series sponsored by Canon, we wanted to share a bunch of their past cards, as inspiration. Take a look, below...Read More >

Oxblood red nails

How gorgeous is this Chinatown red nail polish for the holidays? My friend Kendra is wearing it here, and it looks romantic and elegant. The color is deep, rich and glossy. It would be so pretty to wear to a party. (We also liked this dramatic red, if you want something even darker.) Which polish are you wearing right now? xo

P.S. Oxblood shoes.

Honest fall diapers

Anton turns four months old tomorrow, and he is growing up so quickly! This weekend, for the very first time, he rolled from his back to his tummy!!! It was a big day in the Goddard-Williams household :)
I also read a fascinating article recently (although I can't remember where!) about letting your babies do things for themselves and get a little frustrated, if need be, while they work things out. So, for example, if they're reaching for a toy, don't just hand it to them, but let them keep reaching for a while until they get it. It's hard to listen to them complaining, but then they're so proud and excited when they make it work.
Also, in these photos, how cute are these Honest Company diapers? They just came out with their fall patterns, and those little foxes kill me.
Their natural, hypoallergenic diapers are gentle even for the most sensitive skin; and they're free of chlorine processing, chemical bleaches and risky additives (like fragrances, lotions and latex).
As I've mentioned before, we use Honest Company household cleaning, bath and body and baby products. They're one of the few companies I really, really trust. I'd highly recommend them.

P.S. Looking at these photos, I'm already nostalgic for Anton's soft little rolls. Also, the first time Toby stood up by himself and took his first wobbly steps:)

Natural home scents

The temperatures are dropping this week, so it's time to get cozy! Here's an amazing way to make your whole house smell amazing...
First combine ingredients, like citrus basil (fresh and clean)...
Juniper and pepper (masculine)...
...or vanilla cinnamon (cozy and festive)...

All you have to do is cover the ingredients with water and simmer on the stove—and voila! Your entire home will smell incredible. Great for a cold day inside, right? Or a holiday party! xo

Fall trend: Grey nails

One funny part of fall in New York is that you start spotting all the new nail polish colors on women around town. My favorite color might be this dove grey. Isn't it understated and beautiful? Here, my friend Kendra is wearing NARS Galathee. What do you think? What other nail colors are you liking these days?

P.S. Navy nails, and short boots for fall.
